WOMEN’S INVOLVEMENT IN ECONOMY STUDIED
Women’s involvement in economy was studied in the framework of the “Development of Women’s Entrepreneurship Through Employers in Azerbaijan and Georgia” project initiated by the International Labor Organization. According to the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs /Employers/ of Azerbaijan Republic, no statistics about women entrepreneurs are gathered in the country. Some sources say women make up 7-8% of entrepreneurs. The study shoes that one of the factors restricting economic activity of women is that they are not duly involved in economic reforms and privatization processes taking place in the country. Only 3% of women have their own business. The reasons that keep women from doing business are lack of property, starting capital and of necessary knowledge and skills, and difficulties in financial market finding. Certain differences in the structure of employment of women and men depending on sphere of activity and economy sector were revealed during the study. Women are mainly involved in such spheres as medicine, education, culture, science crediting and insurance, whereas men are mainly engaged in production of goods.
