WUF13: High-level meeting of Baku Continuity Coalition concludes

A high-level meeting of the Baku Continuity Coalition on Urban Climate Action and Sustainable Urbanisation was held within the framework of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) in Baku.
The event focused on expanding the activities of the Baku Continuity Coalition (BCC), established during COP29, and ensuring sustainability in urban climate governance.
The meeting opened with speeches by Anar Guliyev, National Coordinator for WUF13 and Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, and Yalchin Rafiyev, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs.
It was noted that the Coalition’s primary objective is to address existing gaps in urban climate policy, ensure continuous cooperation among stakeholders, and maintain continuity between international forums. Participants emphasized the importance of expanding international cooperation and strengthening coordination in this field.
The meeting brought together representatives from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Egypt, and Brazil, as well as Executive Director of UN-Habitat Anacláudia Rossbach. It was also noted that Kenya, Spain, Canada, China, Italy, Colombia, Ecuador, Malaysia, Poland, and Ethiopia have joined the process.
The discussions highlighted the central role of housing issues in urban climate policy. Participants stressed the importance of effective governance, policy, and financing mechanisms for building sustainable, inclusive, and accessible urban environments. They also exchanged experiences and emphasized the need for long-term and effective solutions.
