ASOIU’s top students inaugurate “ASOIU-100” plaque in Balakhani

A group of high-achieving students from the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU), together with Vice-Rector for Strategic Affairs Vazeh Asgarov, inaugurated the “ASOIU-100” plaque installed in front of a 102-year-old oil well located on the premises of Balakhani Operating Company LTD.
Following the inauguration ceremony, ASOIU students participated in a candid discussion with the company’s management, sharing their educational experiences and career aspirations. They noted that such collaborations, which foster strong ties between the classroom and the industry, will help them succeed in their chosen professions.
Vice-Rector Asgarov provided an overview of the university’s modern, multidisciplinary academic programs, tailored to current requirements, and expressed his satisfaction that the connection between production, science, and innovation is still preserved in the very building where the Nobels once worked. “Every university is recognized by the success of its graduates. In this regard, it is a great honor to take part in such a historic day in Balakhani—known for its significant place in oil history—together with our students and surrounded by ASOIU alumni,” Asgarov said, expressing hope that university–industry relations will continue to strengthen in the future.
Balakhani Operating Company LTD adviser, presidential scholarship holder, and Honored Engineer Telman Orujov shared memories of his student years at ASOIU. “I am very happy to have had such teachers. They supported us not only in the classroom but also beyond, sharing their experience with us. I hope that my major—geology—will be taught at an even higher level year after year, training graduates who will contribute to Azerbaijan’s future production successes.”
At the end of the event, another ASOIU alumnus, Balakhani Operating Company LTD Vice President for Production Ahmad Kelashov, was awarded the “100th Anniversary of the Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (1920–2020)” Jubilee Medal. Established by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev, the Jubilee Medal is awarded to individuals who have achieved outstanding success in science, education, oil, and industry, and have made significant contributions to the development of these fields.
It should be noted that, under the relevant decree of President Ilham Aliyev, ASOIU’s 100th anniversary was celebrated through a series of events. The decision to immortalize the university’s founding in the Balakhani production area was made in February of this year during the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between ASOIU and Balakhani Operating Company LTD. As part of this decision, Balakhani Operating Company LTD President Rovshan Rzayev, whose company is the same age as ASOIU, presented Rector Rufat Azizov with a certificate naming the still-operating well “ASOIU-100.”
