ASU TO COMMEMORATE JANUARY 20 MARTYRS IN CZECHIA
Azerbaijani Students` Union (ASU) in Czechia will hold a series of events to commemorate the 18th anniversary of January 20 tragedy, said State Committee on work with Azerbaijanis living abroad.
A sermon will be delivered at the Brno city mosque and participants will pray for January 20 martyrs on Friday.
Azerbaijani students will distribute statements condemning crimes committed by the Soviet leadership in Baku in January 1990.
The “Friends of Azerbaijan” club, created by the ASU, will adopt a declaration including condolences to the Azerbaijani people and information about the January 20 tragedy for local residents.
On January 19, ASU members will go to Brno office of the Czech radio.
Posters will be hanged in central Freedom Square reflecting the Bloody January tragedy and Prague Spring events of 1968.
There will be 131 candles for the memory of martyrs, and a Memory Book will be put at the square.
Azerbaijani students will also place a wreath at a memorial plaque of Jan Palach, Czech student who committed suicide by self-immolation as a political protest for Soviet-led invasion of Czechia in 1968.
