Azerbaijan, France mull energy cooperation
Baku, December 14 (AZERTAC). Minister of Industry and Energy of Azerbaijan Natig Aliyev met with Vice-President of French GDF Suez company Jean Marie Dauger to discuss Azerbaijan-France energy cooperation.
Aliyev briefed Dauger on Azerbaijan`s successes achieved in recent years. He said Azerbaijan managed to ensure its energy security.
According to him, proven gas reserves of over 2.2 trillion cubic meters will allow Azerbaijan becoming an important supplier of gas to international markets in the decades to come. Azerbaijan places priority on diversification of energy supplies. Azerbaijan contributes to ensuring energy security of other countries as well. Construction of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline is one of the great achievements of Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan plays a role of the transit country for letting oil suppliers from the eastern shore of the Caspian access European and international markets. The other milestone was the construction of the South Caucasus gas pipeline, which opened a corridor for export of the Azerbaijani gas, the Minister said.
Aliyev dwelled on the importance of the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline
Energy resources must serve regional and international cooperation rather than competition and confrontation.
The Minister congratulated Total and Gas de France on the successful discovery of the new gas field Absheron in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian, adding the field will cement energy potential of Azerbaijan and energy security of Europe.
