AZERBAIJAN IS KEEN TO DEVELOP TIES WITH MALAYSIA, AMBASSADOR TAHIR KARIMOV
Azerbaijan is interested in sharing experience with Malaysia in the fields of economy, history and culture, said Azerbaijan`s Ambassador to the country Tahir Karimov in an interview with Bernama.
The Azeri diplomat noted Azerbaijan is keen to develop ties with Malaysia which he said his country views as an example for Muslim and developing countries.
According to Karimov, Azerbaijan is keen to join Malaysia`s Vision-2020 Program.
Speaking on January 20 tragedy, Tahir Karimov said Soviet army`s invasion of Baku in 1990 resulted in the killing and injuring of hundreds of innocent and defenseless Azerbaijanis.
The Azerbaijani diplomat said the Bloody January tragedy is one of the most heroic pages in the history of his country.
Karimov said Azerbaijan and Malaysia have many similarities as both countries are predominantly Muslim and are home to various ethnics groups and peoples of various religions.
“Like Malaysia, we also regard peace, stability and tolerance as major factors for development and prosperity”, the Azeri envoy added.
He also said a large number of Malaysians are working in oil and gas companies in Azerbaijan.
