AZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT, EUROPEAN COMMISSION CHIEF MEET IN BRUSSELS
Brussels, April 28 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev has today met European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso.
The Azerbaijani leader and the European Commission chief first posed for photographs in front of the flags of Azerbaijan and the European Union.
During the talk, Barroso praised the Azerbaijan-EU relations, saying they are successfully developing within the European Neighbourhood Policy.
On energy cooperation, he hailed Azerbaijan`s contribution to Europe`s energy security.
Barroso said the expansion of the Azerbaijan-EU relations shows how much emphasis the country places on European values. The European Commission President stressed the importance of implementing more concrete joint projects in the future.
Barroso also praised Azerbaijan`s economic progress, saying the country has big potential.
President Ilham Aliyev said the EU-Azerbaijan relations develop in various fields.
The Azerbaijani leader said his country will continue moves towards European integration.
The President also stressed Azerbaijan`s economic successes, adding the country contributes to economic cooperation and security in the region.
“All this allows us to further develop the mutually fruitful EU-Azerbaijan relations,” said the Azerbaijani leader.
On Azerbaijan`s energy potential, the President said the country is the initiator and participant of large-scaled projects.
“We are ready to further contribute to ensuring Europe`s energy security.”
President Ilham Aliyev also expressed confidence the EU-Azerbaijan relations will continue to develop.
Following the meeting, the Azerbaijani leader and the European Commission President had a working lunch.
