AZERBAIJAN TO BUILD ITS BASE IN ANTARCTICA
Baku, 23 February (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan intends to build its base in Antarctica, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Huseyngulu Bagirov said.
“We prepare documents to sign the Antarctic agreement and join the 2 committees. We`d like to create research station to study the global climate changes”, said Minister.
The first expedition Azerbaijan-Antarctica headed by President of the Azerbaijan Air and Extreme Sports Federation, Minister of Ecology Huseyngulu Bagirov conquered the highest peak of Antarctica, Mt. Winson (5140 m) and installed here Azerbaijan`s national flag and a bronze plaque with the portrait of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev reading “I am proud to be Azerbaijani” on the front side and a portrait of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev on the reverse side reading “Azerbaijan, go ahead with Ilham”.
The members of the expedition took 459 meteorological measurements here.
