AZERBAIJANI FM MEETS LATVIAN COUNTERPART
Baku, 16 April (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov today has met here his Latvian counterpart Maris Riekstins.
Following the meeting, the two ministers held a news conference.
Mammadyarov said they explored ways of developing bilateral cooperation in various fields, including political, economic and humanitarian ones. The Azerbaijani FM said they also exchanged views on expanding the cooperation within regional and international organizations, including the United Nations.
According to the minister, the diplomats also touched upon the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh region. “We agreed that the conflict can be solved only within the principle of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and inviolability of borders,” Mammadyarov said.
“We also discussed issues related to forthcoming visit of Latvian President Valdis Zatlers to Azerbaijan this summer,” he said.
Maris Riekstins said Latvia attaches great importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan.
Riekstins said European Union`s Eastern Partnership program was also on focus of the meeting, adding Latvia supports this program.
“Tomorrow Baku will host an Azerbaijan-Latvia business forum. Latvian businessmen are interested in investing in various areas in Azerbaijan, including information technologies, transport, finance and banking,” Riekstins said.
