Azerbaijani ICT Minister attends WCIT-12 conference
Baku, December 17 (AZERTAC). An Azerbaijani delegation headed by the minister of communication and information technologies Ali Abbasov has taken part in the World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT) in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates.
According to the ministry, the conference reviewed the current International Telecommunication Regulations (ITRs) adopted in Melbourne, Australia in 1988.
The conference aimed to draw up a new edition of the regulations by bringing together proposals of ITU member states, including representatives of private sector, non-governmental organizations and academy members.
The conference focused on a wide range of issues, including broadband internet application, determination of global internet governance model, building a single direction on cybersecurity, ensuring transparency in roaming services. The participants adopted several draft regulations.
At the end of the conference Abbasov signed an updated version of the ITRs. The regulation will come into force after ratification by Azerbaijan`s parliament.
As part of the visit, the Azeri delegation attended a commemorative event for national leader Heydar Aliyev, which was organized by the Azerbaijani embassy in the UAE.
Abbasov held a range of bilateral meetings, including with ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun Touré as well as heads of US, Russian and other delegations.
