AZERBAIJANI, RUSSIAN FMs HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE
Baku, March 12 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov held here today a joint press conference.
The Azeri Minister said during the meeting they discussed issues concerning the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh and the legal status of Caspian Sea, as well as the political, economic and humanitarian cooperation between the two states.
Expressing to his Russian counterpart Azerbaijan`s position over the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute, Mr. Mammadyarov said it could be settled only within Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and inviolability of its borders.
The Russian Minister stressed that cooperation with Azerbaijan is very important for his country.
Lavrov said at the meeting with his Azeri counterpart they also exchanged views on expansion of cooperation between the two countries within UN, CIS, Council of Europe and other international organizations.
According to Lavrov, Russia backs the settlement of Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and supports efforts by Minsk group co-chairs towards the resolution of the conflict.
He said that resolution of the conflict is in the interest of many countries, including those located in the region, noting that the declaration signed by presidents of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia last year in Moscow reflects exact parameters to push forward the process of the conflict`s resolution.
Speaking of the Azerbaijan-Russia economic cooperation, Sergey Lavrov mentioned that trade between the two countries has reached $2 billion.
He thanked Azerbaijani government for showing great respect to Russian language and literature, as well as for opening branch of Lomonosov Moscow State University in Baku.
The Russia`s top diplomat also pointed out that Russia`s proposal to the US for joint use of early-warning radar in Gabala remains on the table.
Asked whether the Gabala radar may be given for rent to the third party, the Azeri Minister Mammadyarov said: “this issue is not on the agenda”.
