AZERBAIJANI SPEAKER, IRANIAN FM DISCUSS BILATERAL RELATIONS
Baku. February 19 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Parliament Speaker Ogtay Asadov has met here with Iran`s Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki, who arrived in Baku to attend the 7th meeting of the two countries` joint intergovernmental commission.
They discussed prospects for boosting bilateral relations between the two countries.
Asadov said Azerbaijan places a particular emphasis on developing relations with “neighboring and friendly” Iran. He praised the Azerbaijani and Iranian presidents` role in ensuring that “our bilateral relations reach today`s high level”. “Documents signed during our leaders` reciprocal visits lay legal foundations for boosting our relationship” the Milli Majlis Chairman said. He also touched upon the bilateral interparliamentary cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran, praising its level as high.
Asadov thanked Iran`s government for supporting his country`s position on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. He expressed confidence “this policy will never change”. The Speaker also praised the work of the joint intergovernmental commission.
Mottaki said he is pleased to be visiting Baku. The Iranian FM said his country attaches great importance to developing relationship with Azerbaijan. “Today Azerbaijan and Iran enjoy successful relations in a number of fields, and Iran is keen to strengthen and promote these relations” he said.
Head of the Milli Majlis Administration Safa Mirzayev and both countries` ambassadors were present in the meeting.
