Azerbaijan`s Mammadyarov to take on American Wesley So on R6 of Norway Chess 2023

Round 5 of the Norway Chess 2023 was a turning point for Azerbaijani GM Shahriyar Mammadyarov who beat American GM Fabiano Caruana in the classical portion, rising his points to 7.
Mammadyarov will next face American Wesley So in Round 6.
After R5, Azerbaijan’s Mammadyarov shares the 4th-5th places together with Indian Gukesh Dommaraju, both having 7 points.
The 11th Norway Chess 2023 is a 10-player Round-robin tournament, held from May 30 to June 9 in Stavanger, Norway. In the tournament, which features super GMs, if a classical game is drawn, an Armageddon game is played. The event also features a blitz tournament that precedes the classical event.
GM Fabiano Caruana leads the tournament with 10.5 points, while American Hikaru Nakamura is in second place with 9.5 points, followed by French Alireza Firouzja in third with 7.5.
The prize fund of the 10-player single round-robin tournament is approximately $243,000.
