AZERI EMBASSY TO SWEDEN REMEMBERS KHOJALY VICTIMS
Linkoping, February 26 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Embassy to Sweden has held an act of remembrance at the Linkoping University to commemorate the 17th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide.
Ambassador Rafael Ibrahimov addressed students and teaching staff of the university to raise their awareness about the tragedy. He said “on the night of February 26 in 1992 Armenians assaulted Khojaly to erase the town from the earth of the world, slaughtering its peaceful residents, including women, children and the old.” The Ambassador described the genocide as the one “not only against Azerbaijanis but also against the whole mankind”.
Rafael Ibrahimov also touched upon current state of talks to find a peaceful solution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He said the dispute can be solved “only on the basis of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity”.
Following his speech the Ambassador responded to a number of questions from the audience. The Embassy distributed Heydar Aliyev Foundation-made books and CDs about the Khojaly genocide among the university`s students and teaching staff.
Following the event Ambassador Ibrahimov had a meeting with Azerbaijanis living in Linkoping.
