BRANCH OF MOSCOW STATE UNIVERSITY OFFICIALLY INAUGURATED IN BAKU
An inauguration ceremony of the Baku Branch of the Moscow State University (MSU) named after Lomonosov took place in the capital city of Azerbaijan on Saturday.
In her opening speech, Rector of the MSU’s Baku Branch Mrs. Nargiz Pashayeva described the event as historic saying that not only it is a sign of a new stage in Azerbaijan-Russia educational and cultural cooperation but also an evidence of convergence between civil societies of the two countries. “The birth of the university is the birth of a very big initiative symbolizing cooperation for culture, science and peoples’ friendship,” she said.
All speakers pointed out the role of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev as an author of the very idea of creating a branch of the MSU in Baku.
They also mentioned great contributions of the Rector of the branch Mrs. Pashayeva to realization of this project.
A message of greetings from Rector of the Moscow State University Viktor Sadovnichiy was also read out at the ceremony.
Present at the event were Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Elchin Efendiyev, Head of Department at the Presidential Administration Ms. Fatma Abdullazade, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu, Russian Ambassador in Baku Vasiliy Istratov as well as members of the Milli Majlis, well-known public figures, foreign diplomats, first students of the branch and their teachers from Moscow State University.
