CEC CHIEF PANAHOV GIVES NEWS CONFERENCE
Baku, March 18 (AZERTAC). Chairman of the Central Election Commission Mazahir Panahov gave a press conference at the “Sechkiler” Information Center. Panahov said voter turnout in the nationwide referendum for additions and amendments to the constitution was expectedly very high. Quite a few local and international observers as well as local and foreign media outlets watched the voting.
Voting was held in 5367 polling stations. CEC did not receive any official complaint about law violation. However, commission members received telephone calls about certain processes in some places. According to Panahov, CEC will start receiving official applications about it starting from the morning.
Panahov noted 3, 478, 571 eligible voters (71,08 percent of registered voters) have cast their ballots.
He pointed out so far CEC has received returns from 2900 polling stations (54 percent) out of 5367, adding the process is underway.
50 percent+1 vote is needed to pass an issue put for referendum
In the coming hours, results coming from all stations will be posted on the CEC website. Panahov noted Azerbaijani voters supported all 29 issues put up for referendum taking into account the large number of votes in favor. Thus, all issues can be considered adopted. Panahov said initial results will be announced later today.
Results of referendum will be published officially in no later than 25 days.
