CENTRAL ELECTION COMMISSION HOLDS MEETING
Baku, March 25 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s Central Election Commission, CEC, has held a meeting today under the chairmanship of Mazahir Panahov.
The meeting first approved the minutes of the commission`s March 17 meeting.
Afterwards, CEC Member Gabil Orujov informed the participants about complaints received by the commission concerning the March 18 nationwide referendum. Orujov said that on March 23, CEC received a joint complaint from authorized representatives of “The Republicans” and “Movement for Karabakh and Republic” campaigning groups concerning alleged irregularities in some polling stations on the voting day.
According to Orujov, a member of CEC`s expert group filed a petition for the prolongation of the period of consideration. Orujov said the CEC expert also decided to send several documents to constituencies for consideration.
Basing on these facts, the Central Election Commission has approved the petition and decided to prolong the period of consideration and send several documents to relevant constituencies.
CEC`s meeting took place in the presence of representatives of the US Embassy, International Republican Institute, International Foundation for Electoral Systems and journalists.
