CHIEF OF AZERBAIJAN PRESS COUNCIL MEETS IPI CHAIRMAN
Baku, May 13 (AZERTAC). Chairman of the Press Council of Azerbaijan Aflatun Amashov has met here today with Chairman of the International Press Institute (IPI) Janne Virkkunen and IPI Director David Dadge.
Amashov told of the country`s efforts to ensure freedom of press, adding Azerbaijan puts priority on boosting economic potential of the press. He noted the Fund for Governmental Support for Media Development to be set up shortly will play important role in improving journalistic proficiency and solving existing problems.
Virkkunen said the aim of his visit is to appraise Azerbaijan`s possibilities to host the IPI World Congress and 59th General Assembly.
Dadge said conduct of international events including that scheduled in Azerbaijan is to bring together journalists. Conduct of the congress in Azerbaijan is important for strengthening news exchange among South Caucasus nations` media outlets.
The decision on the venue of the events will be made at the World Congress in Helsinki on June 6-9 and 58th General Assembly.
