DAY OF AZERBAIJAN IN OLYMPIC ATHENSAZERBAIJAN PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV ATTENDS THE EVENT
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva attended the event.
The Azerbaijani leader met here with President of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge. The sincere conversation was focused on the close cooperation between the International Olympic Committee and the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan, which is to be expanded in the future.
President Ilham Aliyev also warmly greeted other invitees, such as President of European Olympic Committee Mario Pescante, Prime Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovich, Hinorable President of the International Olympic Committee Juan Antonio Samaranch, President of the international Wrestling Federation Rafael Martinetti, President of the Amateur Boxing Assoiation Anvar Choudri, President of European Judo Federation Marius Vizir, Renowned athlete Sergey Bubka, IOC Vice-President Vladimir Smirnov, as well as presidents of the Olympic Committees and Sport Ministers of Germany, Moldova, Georgia, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan. Kirghizstan, Belarus, Turkmenistan, and informed them briefly on Azerbaijani culture and development of sports in the country.
The guests highly valued the development of the Olympic movement and the attention and concern the government shows to sports in Azerbaijan.
During the whole ceremony, video materials about the activities of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev who had had invaluable merits in development of all spheres of life in the independent Azerbaijan, culture and art of the people, as well as the activities of the Head of State, President of the national Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, his meetings with athletes etc.
