IMPLEMENTATION OF PARDON ACT STARTED
Baku, March 18 (AZERTAC). Implementation of the pardon act adopted by Milli Majlis (Parliament of Azerbaijan) at the initiative of MP, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO goodwill ambassador Mehriban Aliyeva today has started.
The draft pardon act envisaged release of convicted for less grave crimes, persons who were under 18 when committing the crime, disabled persons of the first and second groups, men who reached the age of 60, persons who have dependant children under the age of 18 and others.
The amnesty will cover men and women whose prison term is to be expired in half a year and a year respectively, all inmates sentenced to public work, correctional labor, as well as some prisoners whose service of term was postponed, who were sentenced to suspended imprisonment. The pardon act will cover roughly 9,000 people of whom 1700 will be released. The resolution will be implemented within four months since coming into force.
