Istanbul, February 3, Gunel Karatepe, AZERTAC
A forum titled “Azerbaijani Diaspora Youth: Unity and Development” was held in Istanbul.
Co-organized by Azerbaijan’s State Committee on Work with Diaspora and the Federation of Turkish-Azerbaijani Associations (TADEF), the two-day forum brought together 29 Azerbaijani young people from 28 countries, as well as diaspora activists representing friendly countries of Azerbaijan.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Valeh Hajiyev, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, noted that Youth Day reflects the care shown by National Leader Heydar Aliyev toward the people of Azerbaijan and its youth.
Şamil Ayrım, a member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye and head of the Azerbaijan–Türkiye interparliamentary friendship group, spoke about Azerbaijan’s Victory in Garabagh and the path that led to this triumph. He emphasized that conveying this glorious page of shared history - regarded as a historic victory of the Turkic world - to future generations is a responsibility entrusted to the youth. He also highlighted that the value Azerbaijan places on young people, and the efforts of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to enhance youth education, are today being successfully continued by the Azerbaijani state under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.
Abdullah Uçgun, District Governor (Kaymakam) of Bağcılar in Istanbul, underlined the significance of the phrase “One nation, two states,” noting that with the establishment of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), this concept has become a symbol of unity among all Turkic peoples.
Teymur Rzayev, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan and professor at Istanbul’s Yeditepe University, underscored the importance of Turkic youth serving as an example of unity worldwide.
Adalet Turan, head of TADEF, stressed the importance of young people - and everyone who considers themselves young - contributing to the future of their country.
The forum also heard views from young participants representing various countries. The event continued with the screening of a video showcasing the activities of the Azerbaijani diaspora and summer camps organized for diaspora youth.
