MILLI MAJLIS SPEAKER MEETS PACE RAPPORTEUR
Baku, May 8 (AZERTAC)., Milli Majlis speaker Ogtay Asadov met Thursday with visiting PACE rapporteur on migration, refugees and population John Greenway.
Ogtay Asadov said Azerbaijan government has always taken care for refugees and IDPs. To improve living conditi9ns of refugees, President has to date signed 46 orders, the Cabinet of Ministers 215 decisions, Milli Majlis adopted 22 laws. The new settlements and infrastructure was built with the State Oil Fund`s funding.
With the assistance of the government, 86,000 refugees and IDPs were provided with permanent jobs.
“We know that the Council of Europe has no financial resources but it has political clout. The Council of Europe has good potential. It can use its prestige to urge international organizations and donor countries to increase humanitarian aid to Azerbaijani refugees and IDPs,” Asadov noted.
John Greenway hailed Azerbaijan achievements. He said Azerbaijan`s importance for Europe is increasing. Council of Europe intends to expand cooperation with Azerbaijan, he added.
Discussions at the meeting also revolved around Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan`s role in ensuring Europe`s energy security and other issues.
