MINSK GROUP CO-CHAIRS: ARMENIAN MEDIA DISTORTED OUR STATEMENTS
OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs returned Friday to Baku to continue discussions on the Nagorno-Karabakh problem.
American co-chair Matthew Bryza told journalists that co-chairs earlier met with Armenian President Robert Kocharian and Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian. He said negotiations were constructive. According to him, it is difficult to say if the parties can reach an agreement before presidential elections in Armenian slated for February. Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers are not scheduled to meet yet.
Commenting on the Armenian media reports concerning Bryza’s statement on the Azerbaijan-Turkey relationship, American co-chair said he had not made such statements.
Bryza said co-chairs always secure Baku’s “go-ahead” when going to Khankendi via Armenia rather than Azerbaijan.
French co-chair Bernard Fassier said they could continue talks based on Madrid proposals.
Russian co-chair Yury Merzlyakov said co-chairs’ proposal on Nagorno-Karabakh’s involvement as a side in the discussions had been distorted by the Armenian media.
