NEW HEAD OF OSCE OFFICE IN BAKU HOLDS FIRST PRESS CONFERENCE
Baku, 8 May (AZERTAC). New head of the OSCE Office in Baku Ali Bilge Cankorel has held his first press conference to outline the priorities of the Office.
Cankorel said during his tenure the office would mostly focus on political and military, economic and environmental and democratization areas.
According to the diplomat, “the Office, in collaboration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs, carried out Community Policing project in two original pilot sites of Mingechevir and Shirvan regions”. He added “the Office would continue to provide assistance to the Ministry in their expansion of Community Policing to new regions- Devechi, Guba, Khachmaz, Gazakh and Ganca”.
Cankorel said “the Democratization Programme`s main focus for 2009-2010 will be on Electoral Assistance and Freedom of the Media/ Media Development”. He pointed out that “projects have been implemented with regard to voter education and information, training for domestic observers as well as information sessions for constituency election commissions and regional executive authorities”. “The Office might take similar direction for projects related to the municipal elections.”
The diplomat also noted the Office would organize trainings for journalists and students of journalism faculty.
