PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV MEETS NATO SECRETARY GENERAL IN BRUSSELS
Belgium, April 29 (AZERTAC). President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev met Wednesday here with the NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer.
NATO Secretary General welcomed the Azerbaijani leader in front of the NATO headquarters. Then, they posed for photographs.
During the conversation, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said cooperation with Azerbaijan was successfully developing, and that NATO attaches significant importance to it.
The Secretary General stressed special role of Azerbaijan in the region.
NATO considers Azerbaijan a partner which plays an important role in the region, he noted.
According to him, President Ilham Aliyev`s current visit would contribute to expanding NATO-Azerbaijan relations.
The Secretary General highly valued Azerbaijan`s participation in anti-terrorist operations and Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP).
President Ilham Aliyev, in turn, said NATO-Azerbaijan relations are developing. He underlined that Azerbaijan actively participates in NATO`s various programs and events, including IPAP.
According to the President, Azerbaijan-NATO relations are a part of the country`s integration into Euro-Atlantic structures.
The Head of State expressed confidence that bilateral relations would continue to boost.
