PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV’S INTERVIEW TO “LEADER” TV CHANNEL
It is for the third time that Azerbaijan as an independent state participates in the summer Olympic games. Every victory of our athletes is that of every citizen of Azerbaijan including me, and regardless of the office I held, I have always paid particular attention to development of sport in Azerbaijan. Because this is not only a sporting achievement, but also the country’s glory and the place it occupies in the world. I hope our athletes will make our people happy and represent the country in a worthy manner this time again
Q: Mr. President, how do you see generally the place of sport in forming and rising the international image of Azerbaijan?
A: Of course, sport’s role in this is very important. Azerbaijan is actively involved in the Olympiad’s cultural program, as well. As you know, “Day of Azerbaijan” will be conducted here in Athens. In 2000 in Sydney, we also hold the “Day of Azerbaijan” trying to bring complete information on Azerbaijan to participants. This time we also attach particular importance to this event. We hope there will be a lot off guests, and they will familiarize with Azerbaijan, with today’s realities of our country.
