PROSECUTOR GENERAL OF AZERBAIJAN MEETS SLOVAK VICE-PREMIER
Baku, May 16 (AZERTAC). Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Zakir Garalov has met here today with visiting Deputy Premier, Justice Minister of Slovakia Stefan Harabin and his accompanying delegation.
Prosecutor General briefed Slovak Vice-Premier on judicial reforms ensuring judicial independence, improvement of legislation, amendments to legislation meeting international standards, reforming of Judicial Council, establishment of the Judges Selection Committee, transparent selection of judges.
He stressed the role of the memo on cooperation between justice ministries of Azerbaijan and Slovakia in strengthening legal cooperation between the two countries.
Garalov told of the Azerbaijan Public Prosecutor`s Office, its goals, activity and reforms.
Discussions also revolved around prosecution bodies` learning the case law of the European Convention on Human Rights and European Court of Human Rights.
Stefan Harabi said Slovakia is keen on bilateral cooperation with Azerbaijan to carry out legal reforms. He said Justice Ministry of Slovakia attaches great importance to development of ties with Azerbaijan. Slovak Justice Minister told of the meetings held during his visit. He described inauguration of the Supreme Court`s building in Baku as manifestation of government`s support for the judiciary.
