THIRD CONGRESS OF EUROPEAN AZERBAIJANIS HELD
Frankfurt am Main, 15 April (AZERTAC). The third Congress of European Azerbaijanis (CEA) has been launched here bringing together representatives of all diaspora organizations in Europe.
Opening the congress, CEA president Natig Aghamirov gave brief information about the organization.
Chairman of Azerbaijan`s State Committee for Work with Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov conveyed greetings of President Ilham Aliyev to congress participants.
Ibrahimov spoke of works carried out to strengthen Azerbaijan`s diaspora in foreign countries, praising activities of the Congress of European Azerbaijanis. The Chairman also touched upon the issue of opening of Turkey-Armenia borders, saying “Turkey should not open borders with the aggressor before all occupied regions of Azerbaijan, including its integral part Nagorno-Karabakh are freed”.
Ibrahimov praised joined activities of the Azerbaijani and Turkish Diaspora organizations, stressing they have to further intensify their activities on their way. He pointed out there are some forces who want to split Azerbaijan and Turkey, adding “they must not be given a chance to reach their goal”.
Ibrahimov said “opening of the borders between Turkey and Armenia before the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is solved would have a serious negative impact on Turkish-Azerbaijani fraternal relations”.
Addressing the congress, Azerbaijan`s ambassador in Berlin Parviz Shahbazov praised the activities of Diaspora organizations in Europe, including Coordination Center of Azerbaijanis in Germany.
Other speakers included Co-chairman of Congress of World Azerbaijanis and Member of Parliament Sabir Rustamkhanli, member of German Bundestag Hakki Keskin, chairman of Azerbaijan-Main Society Basar Komur, and chairman of Federation of Turkey-Azerbaijan Societies Bilal Dundar, head of Netherlands-Azerbaijan Friendship society Sahil Gasimov, executive director of Coordination Center of Azerbaijanis in Germany Samira Patser-Ismayilova, chairman of Youth Association of Romanian Azerbaijanis Hajiyev, chair of Germany-Azerbaijan Friendship Society Nusrat Dilbasta, chair of “Ana Vatan” Azerbaijani Women Union in Europe Gulshan Kazimova (the Netherlands), chairman of Congress of Ukrainian Azerbaijanis Akif Gulmammadov, head of Diaspora organization in France “Azerbaijan Home” Mustafa Alinja and representative of Society of Azerbaijani Youth in Norway Ramil Aliyev.
Chairman of Azerbaijan-Main Society Basar Komur was elected as new president of the Congress, while chairman of Federation of Turkey-Azerbaijan Societies Bilal Dundar and head of Netherlands-Azerbaijan Friendship Society Sahil Gasimov - first deputies of the president.
The Congress elected five vice-presidents, including chairman of Congress of Belarus Azerbaijan Communities Natig Baghirov, member of Estonian Parliament Eldar Afandiyev, chairman of Congress of Ukraine Azerbaijanis Akif Gulmammadov, head of France “Azerbaijan Home” Mustafa Alinja and executive director of Coordination Center of Azerbaijanis in Germany Samira Patser-Ismayilova.
The events also featured a documentary “We are the nation of 50 million” highlighting nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev`s and President Ilham Aliyev`s contributions to strengthening Azerbaijan`s independence and the country`s Diaspora organizations.
At the end of the congress, the participants adopted an address to Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.
