TO THE JEWISH COMMUNITY OF AZERBAIJAN
Dear country fellows,
The Second World War which became the reason of the most mass human disaster in the history, remains a terrible black page in the life of many people, in particular the Jewish people. During this bloody war, millions people of the Jewish origin, becoming innocent victims of fascism, undergone purposeful policy of genocide.
In April 1943, prisoners of the Warsaw Jewish ghetto begun resolute protest action against bloody crimes of fascism, national-religious discrimination. In this unequal battle not for life, and for death, they heroically were lost, but have set an example of honorable struggle for the national rights and human dignity. This event which has become a symbol of moral victory in struggle against fascism went down the history not only as tragedy of Jews, but also as the sample of heroism.
Regretfully, I wish to notice that separate political-chauvinistic circles, reactionary regimes and ideologies which have not taken a lesson from history, and continue to remain today a source of serious threat to peace and tranquility. Military aggression of Armenia against Azerbaijan last twenty years, the policy of deportation and ethnic cleaning carried out against our people, acts of massacre and terror, at last, the monstrous genocide of Azerbaijanis in Khojaly is a bitter reality of our time. We consider any display of religious-ethnic enmity and discrimination irrespective of where they occur, a crime threatening all human civilization, and we call on the world community for mobilization before this universal threat.
Every year progressive world community with great respect remembers the day of suffering and heroism of the Jewish people. On the day of your national grief on behalf of the Azerbaijani people once again I share your sorrow. May Allah calm the soul of all innocent victims of reaction.
Ilham Aliyev,
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan
