UKRAINIAN PRESIDENT VISITS BAKU SLAVIC UNIVERSITY
Baku, April 10 (AZERTAC). President of Ukraine Victor Yushchenko and his spouse Kateryna Yushchenko visited Friday Baku Slavic University.
As known, the Ukrainian president is honorary doctor of this University since 2006.
First, the President attended the opening of Ukrainian language lab after Taras Shevchenko.
Here, President Yushchenko and his spouse also familiarized themselves with the Ukrainian Cultural Center and Ukraine Sunday school.
President Victor Yushchenko was told that the Ukrainian Cultural Center was opened in 2001 by Ukraine`s Supreme Rada speaker Ivan Plushch.
Afterwards, the Ukrainian leader met with the University`s students and teaching staff.
Rector of BSU Kamal Abdulla said “the Ukrainian President is known in Azerbaijan as a wise and strong-willed politician and a friend of the country.”
The staff of the University is confident that honorary doctor of BSU Victor Yushchenko will contribute to expanding scientific and cultural ties between the two countries and cooperation between BSU and Ukraine-based higher educational institutions, Kamal Abdulla said.
He underscored BSU plays special role in development of spiritual, scientific and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine.
President Victor Yushchenko highly valued his current visit to Baku and the meetings he held here.
He expressed satisfaction at the dynamically developing relationship between the two countries.
“Excellent prospects, including implementation of concrete economic projects await us,” the President stressed.
He congratulated the Azerbaijani people for the progress they achieved.
The President pointed out “the state and people of Ukraine will always remain the Azerbaijani people`s friend.”
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, President Yushchenko said his country regards that the dispute must be settled on the basis of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
The President also underlined the importance of the fact that a University studying the history, language and culture of his country operates in Baku.
The President wished successes to BSU students and teaching staff, and the Azerbaijani people peace and prosperity.
The Ukrainian leader answered the questions by the University`s students.
