UNESCO Director General congratulates Azerbaijani people on 4,000th anniversary of Ganja
Baku, June 29 (AZERTAC). UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova has sent a message to Nizami Ganjavi International Center on the occasion of the 4,000th anniversary of the Azerbaijani city of Ganja.
The message reads: “With great pleasure I congratulate the Azerbaijani people on the occasion of the 4000th anniversary of the city of Ganja. Located at the junction of the Silk Way, Ganja played an important role in building dialogue through commercial and cultural exchange existed along this way. For a long time Ganja has been recognized as a junction of knowledge, science and tolerance, which are the basis of dialogue and mutual understanding, the idea of UNESCO. Ganja was a place of philosophers, poets, scientists. It’s not accidental that, great Nizami Ganjavi and Mahsati Ganjavi lived and created here. UNESCO is especially pleased that a range of events on the 900th anniversary of Mahsati Ganjavi's creative activity will be held at UNESCO's headquarters in Paris this year. Rich heritage and history of Ganja have made its residents strong. I congratulate the residents of Ganja on this occasion."
The Director General noted that the events on the 4000th anniversary of Ganja will be organized in Baku by the Board of Trustees of Nizami Ganjavi International Center soon.
