AZERBAIJAN FM MEETS ANGOLAN NEWLY APPOINTED AMBASSADOR TO COUNTRY
Baku, February 5 (AZERTAC). Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov received Thursday the copy of credentials from Angola`s newly appointed ambassador to the country Samuel Tito Armando.
The sides discussed current state of relationship between Azerbaijan and Angola.
According to Mammadyarov, restoration of territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was his country`s top foreign policy priority.
The Minister said his country was surprised over the fact that Angola had voted against the UN General Assembly`s resolution on the situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
Ambassador Samuel Tito said in response the position that his country took during the vote stemmed from misunderstanding. He added he had been instructed by the Angolan President to take necessary measures so that the fact does not damage bilateral relationship. Both Elmar Mammadyarov and Samuel Tito Armando agreed that the two countries` permanent representations to international organizations conduct consultations on the issue.
The Ambassador stressed he would make every effort to contribute to developing cooperation between the two countries.
Samuel Tito Armando said that President of Angola Jose Eduardo dos Santos graduated from the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy. He also noted Angolan First Lady Ana Paula dos Santos participated in an international forum entitled “Expanding the Role of Women in Cross-Cultural Dialogue” in Baku last year and was very impressed by her visit to the Azeri capital.
They also exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in energy and education spheres.
