Azerbaijan makes significant contributions to OSCE`s activity
Baku, July 9 (AZERTAC). First vice speaker of Azerbaijan Milli Majlis Ziyafat Asgarov has met today OSCE secretary general Lamberto Zannier.
Ziyafat Asgarov said relations between Azerbaijan and OSCE were developing steadily. He noted official Baku shares the organization`s such values as democracy, protection of human rights and freedoms. The vice speaker underlined today Azerbaijan was one of the active members of the OSCE. Asgarov pointed out for 20 years Azerbaijan had been successfully cooperating with OSCE. “We have also close cooperation with OSCE Office in Baku.”
Vice speaker reminded the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, also mentioning the documents adopted by international organizations on the problem. He said the OSCE must demonstrate just position on settlement of the conflict, and documents adopted have to be implemented. “But, first of all, OSCE and other international organizations must recognize Armenia as an aggressor and use sanctions against this country. Otherwise, no progress will be made in settlement of the conflict.”
Lamberto Zannier praised Azerbaijan`s cooperation with OSCE. He added Azerbaijan makes significant contributions to the activity of the OSCE.
Zannier expressed concern over incidents on the contact line between Armenian and Azerbaijani troops. He added the status-quo in settlement of the conflict was unacceptable.
The sides also discussed draft law on defamation, presidential elections to be held next year in Azerbaijan and other issues of mutual interest.
