Azerbaijan Prosecutor General’s office denies closure of Free Thought University
Baku, April 12 (AZERTAC). General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan refutes information disseminated by some media on the suspension of the project of “Azad Fikir Universiteti” (translated from Azerbaijani as "The University of the Free Thought").
Spokesman for the General Prosecutor's Office Eldar Sultanov said that this information is not true.
Prosecutor General's Office said that during the investigation of a criminal case against members of the Nida youth organization, law offenses were found in the activity of this organization.
It was also found that the leaders of Nida and Ol, the owners of the AFU are the same persons.
Also, the investigation found that Ol in violation of the law did not pass the state registration, did not provide the reports to the appropriate government structures, as well as illegally received funds from foreign organizations.
To determine the legality of the actions of the organization, the General Prosecutor's Office staff through judicial decisions confiscated the materials on its activities and documents relevant to the case from the office of the organization.
On the basis of a court decision, the Ministry of Finance was set to verify compliance with the tax legislation.
The criminal investigation continues and the public will be informed in the duly manner.
