AZERBAIJANI MUGHAM AMONG WORLD MASTERPIECES
Opening the ceremony, Secretary General of UNESCO Koichiro Matsuura spoke of significant role of the non-material and folklore heritage, witnessing on rich history of the peoples, in strengthening of friendship and cultural ties among the countries, informed that 70 states have presented for selection their heritage and stated that the jury headed by famous writer Juan Goitisolo decided to give preference to 28 countries.
Then, the Secretary General named the list of countries, stating that Azerbaijani mugham performed by the People’s Artist of Azerbaijan Alim Gasimov, was included to the list, and presented official decision of the jury on this to the representative of Azerbaijan at UNESCO, ambassador of Azerbaijan to France Ms. Eleonora Huseynova.
Also were demonstrated fragments of the documentary on the presented masterpieces. The documentary narrating of Azerbaijani mugham was cheered. Of the 28 winners, only Alim Gasimov was invited to appear before the ceremony participants.
Taking numerous requests of the participants, Alim Gasimov gave a concert in Paris.
