Azerbaijani opera singer performs in Rome
Moscow, April 24 (AZERTAC). Popular Azerbaijani opera singer, soloist of the Bolshoi Theater Elchin Azizov has performed in Rome’s Teatro dell' Opera di Roma (Rome Opera House). Elchin Azizov sang the part of the High Priest of Dagon in "Samson and Delilah" opera by Camille Saint-Saens.
The performance was a new staging of the opera by Spanish directors under the guidance of Carlos of Santa of Patricia. People's Artist of Russia, Olga Borodina, soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre, soloist Ekaterina Semenchuk and soloist of the Latvian National Opera, Alexander Antonenko also participated in the performance. The company has given five performances. Elchin Azizov said: “It was my debut in the Roman opera. Of course, it is an honor for me to perform on the stage of this theater. It was a very interesting work... I sang the part of the High Priest of Dagon for the first time. As you know, this is a difficult part, but I think it is useful for baritone. Famous Swiss musician Charles Dutoit conducted the performance. I was happy to meet my friends, who have arrived in Rome to support me."
Born in Baku, Elchin Azizov graduated from the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Art with the profession of film director.
In August 2005, he enrolled at the Summer Academy of the Mozarteum University (Salzburg, Richard Miller’s class), from 2006-2007, he studied with Alessandro Misciasci. In 2005-2007, he did a special course at the Opera studio attached to the Baku Academy of Music where he studied under the direction of Azad Aliev. In 2007, he became a probationer and soloist at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre (teacher — Badri Maisuradze), where he made his debut in the role of Escamillo (Georges Bizet’s Carmen). Since 2008, he has been a soloist with the Bolshoi Theatre Opera Company. He performs a part of Ibn-Hakia in “Iolanta”, Escamillo in “Carmen”, Leandro in “The Love for Three Oranges”, Dr. Falke in “Die Fledermaus”, Grigory Gryaznoy in “The Tsar’s Bride”, Tomsky, Zlatogor in “The Queen of Spades”. He has appeared in Moscow, Yaroslavl, Archangelsk, Vienna, Salzburg, Milan, Paris. In December 2007, he took part in the I International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival in Baku. He has acted in movies (Azerbaijan, Russia, Turkey) and is the director of several films and theatre productions.
On April 30 the Bolshoi Theatre starts rehearsals of "The Prince Igor" by Yuri Lyubimov. Elchin Azizov performs the role of the Prince Igor. According to the singer, he plans to give a concert in Baku.
