Daimler cuts truck jobs as growth falls
Baku, February 1 (AZERTAC). Daimler Trucks, North America’s biggest truckmaker by sales, plans to cut 2,100 jobs, including 1,300 in North America, as the US economic slowdown starts to feed through to demand for commercial vehicles.
The company - whose Freightliner and Western Star brands account for about a third of North American heavy truck sales - is the first significant truckmaker to announce redundancy plans since the market’s rapid growth started to slow.

Daimler Trucks, part of Germany’s Daimler group, best known for Mercedes-Benz cars, declined to detail where the North American jobs would be cut. But it said: “Daimler Trucks North America is in the process of notifying 1,300 production workers across DTNA’s North American manufacturing facilities of a potential lay-off, in compliance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.”
Daimler supplies the North American market from factories in the US and Mexico.
