Employees of Azerbajan`s Consulate General in Tabriz meet arrested Azerbaijani poets
Baku, July 27 (AZERTAC). The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman has said employees of the country`s Consulate General in Tabriz have met Azerbaijani poets Farid Huseyn and Shahriyar Hajizade who were arrested upon their arrival in Tabriz for a cultural event.
According to Elman Abdullayev, the Azerbaijan poets are kept in Tabriz`s central detention facility.
“Farid Huseyn and Shahriyar Hajizade told our Consulate General employees that they were charged with attempting to illegally enter Iran. The poets said they were invited to a festival in Iran, and arrived in the country to attend this event,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman told journalists.
Abdullayev said the Consulate General in Tabriz would provide legal aid to the Azerbaijani poets.
He noted the Consulate General also managed to secure the consent of appropriate Iranian authorities to arrange a meeting of the Azerbaijani poets with their parents.
“We also reached agreement with the Iranian side that the parents of Farid Huseyn and Shahriyar Hajizade will visit.”
“The poets` parents have already left for Iran, and they will meet their sons on July 28,” the Foreign Ministry spokesman added.
