First artificial heart transplantation performed in Azerbaijan
Baku, January 21 (AZERTAC). An artificial heart was successfully implanted for the first time in Azerbaijan, the head physician of the Central Clinic Hospital, chairman of Azerbaijan Cardiovascular Surgery Association, PhD in medical sciences Kamran Musayev told a press conference with the participation of hospital staff.
Musayev said that artificial heart devices are being implanted around the world in recent years. This is one of the most effective ways of treatment to prevent heart problems.
He said that 44-year-old patient underwent operation at the Central Clinic Hospital: “There were serious problems in all other organs of the bed patient, who used strong medicines. Ibrahim Mansurov who had been suffering from dilated cardiomyopathy for years, was examined by experienced cardiologists, and recommendation was given to implant long-term artificial heart.”
Musayev said the American-built artificial heart, called the HeartMate-2 was implanted in the patient. Long-term use of this device is intended. He said the patient's postoperative condition is normal. At present, the artificial heart device has a normal function, so as the patient's broken hemodynamic and functional parameters prior to surgery have been completely restored. The patient will be discharged in the near future.
