Meeting of Council of Ukrainian and Azerbaijani Presidents held in Kiev
Baku, October 28 (AZERTAC). Following a one-on-one meeting of Presidents Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan and Viktor Yanukovych of Ukraine, a meeting of the Council of both countries` Presidents took place here Thursday with attendance of both delegations.
Ukrainian President Yanukovych said a joint working group and interstate commission have worked on many issues.
Yanukovych stressed Azerbaijan occupies a very serious position in the Caspian region and Asia. He said Ukraine considers Azerbaijan as a close partner and friend. According to him, bilateral relations between the two nations have always been stable and sincere.
President Ilham Aliyev, for his part, noted there is friendly and brotherly relation between the two peoples.
“We have been partners and friends since regaining our independence,” the President said. He described partnership between the countries as “strategic”.
The Azerbaijani leader pointed out there are new ideas and opportunities for expanding energy cooperation. According to him, both countries support each other with respect to regional issues and within international organizations.
“Today, it is impossible to imagine regional cooperation in the Caspian and Black Sea regions without Azerbaijan`s and Ukraine`s special role,” President Ilham Aliyev noted.
