PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV ATTENDS “DAY OF AZERBAIJAN” IN BEIJING
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva have today attended the “Day of Azerbaijan” within the framework of the 29th Summer Olympic Games at the China World Hotel in Beijing. Leaders of the international sport federations warmly welcomed President Ilham Aliyev.
“It is the fourth time that Azerbaijan has participated in the Olympic Games. To date, we have been success as our medal count at every Olympics rose as compared with every previous one. I hope we will continue this tradition, “said the President at a ceremony.
The Head of State noted government of Azerbaijan plays an important role in developing sports in Azerbaijan as many Olympic complexes had been opened so far. Azerbaijani Leader said it is important that International Olympic Committee, European Olympic Committee presidents and Olympic movement top officials attended the opening ceremonies of the Olympic complexes.
“Sport, friendship, partnership, contacts - all these things are the important factors helping to strengthen peace and security in the world, and in this regard, Azerbaijan plays the important role. Azerbaijan is a young, independent state, but it has great culture, history and traditions as well as sport traditions,” added the President.
In conclusion, President Ilham Aliyev wished every success to all athletes and happiness to all countries and their peoples.

During the conversations with President Ilham Aliyev, top officials from foreign countries including diplomats, national Olympic committee heads said it is a good opportunity for them to learn more about Azerbaijan.
The visitors got familiar with Heydar Aliyev Foundation`s publications, Azerbaijani carpets.
The Head of State noted Azerbaijan pays a great attention to the country`s rich culture with the Day of Azerbaijan in Beijing being a part of government`s activity in this area.
President Ilham Aliyev said the government places a special emphasis on development of alls spheres. According to him, Azerbaijan achieved important accomplishments in the field of sports. The fact that Azerbaijan is represented by 44 athletes in the Beijing Summer Olympic Games is the manifestation of care the government of Azerbaijan shows for sports in the country.
President Ilham Aliyev also met with Azerbaijani athletes participating in the Summer Olympics. The Head of State wished them every success and expressed confidence that they would return home with medals.
The President met with Azerbaijani veteran athletes. The Head of State wished every success at the Beijing Olympic Games to Sydney Olympic gold medalist Zemfira Meftakheddinova. President Aliyev also met with world judo champion Natig Bagirov.
Azerbaijani musicians gave a concerto, performing Mugham and other genres of Azerbaijani music.
