2003 World Champion Aghasi Mammadov, 54 kg, held on 17 August his first fight in Athens against young Australian boxer Joel Brunker.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mrs. Mehruban Aliyeva watched the bout.

In the third round, the referee stopped the bout to announce the Azerbaijani boxer’s unconditional victory after the latter has scored 20 points advantage over his rival. In 1/8 final Aghasi Mamadov will meet with Bulgarian athlete Detelin Dalakliyev.

After the bout President Ilham Aliyev congratulated Aghasi Mamadov on the glorious victory and wished him and other Azerbaijani athletes further success.
