SIX GEORGIAN TROOPS KILLED IN SOUTH OSSETIA

Six Georgian servicemen were killed and seven wounded last night as a result of shooting in the zone of the Georgia-South Ossetian conflict.

According to the Defence Ministry of Georgia, “the Georgian villages of Eredni and Vanati (not far from Tskhinvali) as well as the detour road by-passing Tskhinvali, which connects Georgian villages of the Bolshoi and Maly Liakhvi gorge, were intensely pounded”. Several houses were destroyed in those villages.

In the meantime, commander of the Georgian part of the peacekeeping forces in the conflict zone Mikhail Kebadze refused to comment on this report.

The South Ossetian Defence Ministry told Tass that the Ossetian villages of Sarabuk and Tliakan were fired at last night. Firing was conducted from the Georgian side.

According to information from peacekeepers, “positions of both Ossetian and Georgian groups in the mixed peacekeeping forces were fired at in the conflict zone”.
