STATE COMPANY AZERKIMYA DECLARES OCTOBER AS MONTH OF GREENING
Since joining the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s “Let Everyone Plant a Tree” initiative last year, employees of the State Company “Azerkimya” have planted 21700 evergreen trees covering an area of more than 70 hectares around petrochemical plants in the city of Sumgait, press center of the company has announced.
Along with encouraging rapid development of petrochemical industry in Azerbaijan, the great leader Heydar Aliyev used to pay particular attention to environmental issues taking special care of population health. Improvement of people’s social conditions and standard of living was one of the major objectives of the late President, who always attached significance to greening, laying out new parks and alleys in the country.
Guided by these ideas of the great leader, chemists of the State Company “Azerkimya” have carried out practical work on enlarging green areas surrounding chemical plants to ensure ecological balance in Sumgait.
Nearly 21000 trees have been planted in an area of the chemical plants since Member of Parliament Madjid Kerimov was appointed president of the company two years ago, while before there were barely 20000 plants. By doing so, the head of the company is keeping his promise to his voters to convert Sumgait to a green city as it was mentioned in his pre-election platform.
All areas are covered with only evergreen plants such as pine and olive-trees as they are resistant to severe climate conditions, including burning heat, hard frost and strong wind. Their resistance to drought and dust also makes them suitable for Sumgait conditions.
Sumgait is an industrial city in Azerbaijan, located near the Caspian Sea, about 30 kilometres away from the capital, Baku.
