TURKISH FM: ARMENIA MUST LIBERATE OCCUPIED TERRITORIES OF AZERBAIJAN
Baku, May 26 (AZERTAC). Armenia must free the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, Turkish foreign minister Ahmet Davutoglu told a press conference here following a meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart Elmar Mammadyarov. Davutoglu said “we must try to end the tension in the region, and Armenia must end the occupation of Azerbaijan`s lands”.
“The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict can be resolved only on the basis of Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity and resolutions of the UN Security Council.”
“Some intensification has recently been observed in the Nagorno-Karabakh talks. It is important that we take the advantage of the moment. Turkey will always support Azerbaijan in this issue,” said Davutoglu.
The Turkish FM also called on the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs to strengthen their efforts to find a peaceful solution to the Armenia-Azerbaijan dispute.
The Turkish FM said his country places a particular importance on its relationship with Azerbaijan.
“Azerbaijan`s sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence are very important for Turkey. Azerbaijan`s power is Turkey`s power. No one can cast doubt on Turkey`s relationship with Azerbaijan. Turkey has always been and will be with Azerbaijan.”
Mammadyarov said they widely discussed the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict with his Turkish counterpart.
The Azeri FM said they also exchanged views on prospects for energy, humanitarian and cultural cooperation.
Mammadyarov also touched upon economic relations between the two countries.
“Trade between Azerbaijan and Turkey today stands at $2 billion, and it is necessary to increase the figure.”
