Baku, August 1 (AZERTAC). The Turquoise Council of American and Eurasians is an organization based in Houston, Texas, works to advance the interaction among American and Turkish, Turkic and Eurasian people. Last week the Council and the Raindrop Turkish House hosted a dinner to honor Elin Suleymanov, the ambassador from Azerbaijan to the United States, The Edmond Sun writes.

The keynote address was delivered by Suleymanov, and he spoke of how his nation has become a working democracy and a strategic ally of the U.S. since it achieved its independence from the Soviet Union. Azerbaijan has close cultural and linguistic ties to Turkey, which is also a U.S. ally, and their economies are increasingly integrated, Suleymanov reported.

The diplomat also discussed the creation in 2006 of an oil pipeline Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan that runs from the Azerbaijani capital Baku through the Republic of Georgia to Turkey and said that it was supported by the U.S. government. That pipeline now supplies 40 percent of Israel`s oil supply and much of Turkey`s as well.
