UN TO DETERMINE CORE DIRECTIONS OF COOPERATION WITH AZERBAIJAN

Baku, 25 February (AZERTAC). The United Nations and the Government of Azerbaijan are in the process of preparing 5-year United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF) program for 2011-2015 to determine the core directions of UN activity in Azerbaijan.

“The Development Assistance Program will be guided by national priorities”, Chief of the UNDP Public Affairs and Information Department Fargan Abbaszade stated. The similar document was signed in 2004 for 2005-2009.

This year the UN plans to organize a series of activities in Azerbaijan related to worldwide campaign known as the Millennium Development Goals. The declaration, determining the commitments of the UN member states on the eve of new millennium was adopted at UN Summit in New York in 2000.

UN Azerbaijan will hold nine round tables in different regions of Azerbaijan to discuss implementation of the Millennium Development Goals. The first round table on the theme of the everyday violence will be organized on March 5 in Guba. Similar conferences will be held in Ganja, Sheki and Lankaran provinces of the country.
