Video conference on cancer held
Baku, January 31 (AZERTAC). The International Press Center of Russian news agency Ria-Novosti has organized a video conference on cancer between Baku, Moscow, Kiev, Chisinau, Astana and Tbilisi.
Called “Cancer: How to Defeat a Deadly Disease”, the conference aimed to discuss the state of the fight against cancer in CIS countries.
In his speech, Azerbaijan`s chief oncologist Azad Karimli said new blocks were built for National Oncology Center in 2009.
“This gave impetus to the fight against cancer in the country. Currently there are seven oncological clinics in Azerbaijan`s districts.”
Deputy director of Russian Oncological Scientific Center Mikhail Lichiniser said there was a need to rebuild the system of providing aid to people with cancer in the country. He said there were no statistics on the number of people with cancer in Russia. According to Lichiniser, the fight against cancer was very poor in CIS states in general.
Astana`s chief oncologist Mukhtar Tuleutayev said 2012 was announced the Year of the Fight against Cancer in Kazakhstan. He said the government was allocating huge funds for fighting cancer.
