World celebrates International Mother Earth Day
Baku, April 22 (AZERTAC). The International Mother Earth Day was established on April 22, 2009 during the 63rd session of the UN General Assembly. The Resolution was introduced by the Plurinational State of Bolivia and endorsed by over 50 member states.
The resolution recognizes “the Earth and its ecosystems are our home” and that “it is necessary to promote harmony with nature and the Earth in order to achieve just balance between economic, social and ecological requirements of the current and future generation”.
According to the UN General Assembly, the proclamation of the International Mother Earth Day is not intended to substitute similar events, for example Earth Day.
International Mother Earth Day promotes a view of the Earth as the entity that sustains all living things found in nature. Inclusiveness is at the heart of International Mother Earth Day; fostering shared responsibilities to rebuild our troubled relationship with nature is a cause that is uniting people around the world.
