President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and first lady Mehriban Aliyeva have attended a tree-planting campaign to mark the 650th birth anniversary of great Azerbaijani poet, philosopher Imadaddin Nasimi in Shamakhi district, the birthplace of the thinker.
Informing the head of state and first lady of the campaign, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev said:
- On the initiative of Mehriban Aliyeva, we have started a large campaign involving the planting of 650,000 trees throughout the republic in one day. All trees have been grown in local nurseries and distributed among all districts of the republic.
President Ilham Aliyev: How many trees will be planted in Shamakhi?
Mukhtar Babayev: In Shamakhi 50,000. 50,000 trees will also be planted in Baku, Nakhchivan, Sabirabad and Saatli districts.
President Ilham Aliyev: Where else in Shamakhi are trees to be planted, only here?
Mukhtar Babayev: In Shamakhi, the planting is envisaged in 10-12 places. The area where our campaign is conducted is 5 hectares.
President Ilham Aliyev: What trees are being planted?
Mukhtar Babayev: Here, it is mainly thuja and the Eldar pine. There is a total of 38 tree species. These are mainly fruit trees, so that people can also collect fruit.
President Ilham Aliyev: Trees must correspond to the climate of the regions.
Mukhtar Babayev: Of course, we took this into account.
President Ilham Aliyev: Olive trees are probably planted in Absheron?
Mukhtar Babayev: In Absheron, mainly olives and almonds. And here, there are mainly Eldar pines. The planted trees will mainly be watered with the drip method. This system is already under construction in Sabirabad and Shamakhi. In other districts, trees will be watered by the traditional method.
President Ilham Aliyev: But proper care is necessary. On the way here, I saw that some of the trees planted along the road had dried up.
Mukhtar Babayev: All of the dried trees will be replaced and they will be taken care of. In general, the campaign began early in the morning. Preparatory work was carried out for several days. In all the districts work is done with great enthusiasm. We will submit a report by the end of the day.

Head of the district executive authority Tahir Mammadov: 5,000 in this territory alone.

A total of 650,000 trees in 38 species were planted in 83 cities and districts as part of the tree-planting initiative on the occasion of the 650th birth anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet Imadaddin Nasimi.
All of the trees have been grown in the nursery gardens of the ministry.
An e-map of the places where the trees will be planted has been prepared by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources.
Drop-based watering networks are being established in the places where the trees will be planted.
About 50,000 trees were planted in Shamakhi district as part of the campaign.
